S&W Recalls Walther PPK and PPK/S pistols

From S&W:

• Serial numbering for the PP pistol started at #75,000 (1929) PPK production started shortly after that (maybe late 31 or '32) and used the same serial number range as the PP model. When ser#'s reached 1,000,000 for each Model,the numbers were started over again at the 100,000,plus the addition of a 'P' suffix on the PP and a 'K' suffix on.
• Pick up a copy of either E.J. Hoffschmidt's 'Know Your Walther PP & PPK' or Gene Gangarosa's 'The Walther Handgun Story: A Collector's and Shooter's Guide.' Either one of these books will contain an index of serial numbers for Walther guns. Keep in mind Hoffschmidt's book was written circa 1975, so it will have information that is more dated.

Smith & Wesson has identified a condition that may exist in certain PPK and PPK/S pistols which may permit a round to be discharged without the trigger being pulled. When the manual safety is disengaged, Smith & Wesson’s Product Engineering Group has determined that the possibility exists in certain firearms that lowering the hammer may cause a chambered round to fire.

This recall applies to all Walther PPK and PPK/S pistols manufactured by Smith & Wesson from March 21, 2002, until February 3, 2009. The Serial Numbers of the pistol subject to this recall are as follows:

This recall applies to Walther PPS M2 which have a Serial Number ranging from AN3020 to AU7502 ONLY SERIAL NUMBERS BELOW ARE AFFECTED BY THE RECALL. AN3020 through AN9999.
